KNOWN AS: Elephant's Ear, Persian Palm

CLIMATE (LOCATION): East & Southeast Asia | Tropical & Subtropical

DESCRIPTION: This large leafed plant friend is sure to bring some serious jungle vibes to your space. The fun frilly arrowhead shaped leaves are a brilliant shade of bright green that like to point up towards the sun!

Alocasia Calidora Care

Watering
This plant likes to stay moist, but it doesn't like to be wet or saturated. Check the soil frequently during the summer to see if it is starting to dry out. In the winter, you can be a little more lax and wait until the top inch or so dries out before watering again.
Lighting
This Alocasia needs a lot of bright, indirect light. A little bit of direct light is okay too. It will grow towards the sun, so try to give it light evenly throughout the year.
Humidity
These Alocasias do well in high humidity, especially during the summer or hot, dry conditions. Humidity also helps keep pests away from these spider mite prone plants.
Temperature
Alocasia plants enjoy warm temperatures, between 65-85°F. Make sure to avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, as they can make the plant die back. If the temps get too low, the plant might not survive, but it will re-sprout when it becomes warmer.
Toxicity
Alocasias are poisonous plants. If you eat them, you will get a stomach ache and maybe throw up. They might also make your throat swell up. Keep them away from kids and pets.
Propagation
Alocasia have a bulbous modified stem, known as a corm, from which baby plants will grow. These baby plants, or pups, can be removed by making a clean cut and then potted up in soil. The best time to propagate is usually in spring or summer when the plant is most resilient. This is also an excellent opportunity to repot the parent plant.
