Every light and beam option side by side, sorted from most to least output. PPF (Photosynthetic Photon Flux) measures plant-usable light — the fairest single number for comparing grow lights.
| Light | Type | PPF | Watts | Light provided | Distance to plant | Beam | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aspect Gen 2 | Pendant (wall or ceiling) | 50 μmol/s | 36 W | Low to bright direct | 12–72" | 60° | $200 |
| Highland Wide | Ceiling track | 40 μmol/s | 30 W | Low to bright direct | 12–72" | 60° | $230 |
| Highland Narrow | Ceiling track | 40 μmol/s | 30 W | Low to bright direct | 18–96" | 36° | $230 |
| Vita Wide | E26 bulb | 25.95 μmol/s | 20 W | Low to bright indirect | 12–48" | 60° | $85 |
| Vita Narrow | E26 bulb | 25.95 μmol/s | 20 W | Low to bright indirect | 24–80" | 36° | $85 |
| Aura | Ambient lamp | 20.34 μmol/s | 11.4 W | Low to bright indirect | 0–24" (bright indirect within 8") | Diffused | $250 |
| Versa | Tabletop lamp | 17 μmol/s | 11 W | Low to medium indirect | 1–24" | Wide diffused | $230 |
| Grove with Alta | Vertical tabletop stand | 17 μmol/s | 11 W | Low to medium indirect | 1–24" | Wide diffused | $170 |
| Grove | Bar (under shelf) | 17 μmol/s | 11 W | Low to medium indirect | 1–24" | Wide diffused | $130 |
Every light in the lineup shares the same core: warm white 3000K full spectrum, a CRI of 97–98 so plants look true to color, less than 0.4% UV, and no significant heat. Lifespan is 11 years for every fixture; the Vita bulb is rated for 30,000 hours, about 7 years at 12 hours a day. Not sure which light level your plant needs? Look it up in the Plant Light Calculator.
Most people comparing grow lights are choosing between a handful of types: purple "blurple" LED panels, clip-on gooseneck or USB lights, regular household LED bulbs, and high-wattage panels built for grow tents. Here's how Soltech lines up against each type in a home setting. Competitor columns describe what's typical of each category; individual products vary, so check a specific light's spec sheet.
| What matters | Soltech | Purple "blurple" panels | Clip-on & USB lights | Household LED bulbs | Grow-tent panels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light color in your room | Warm white 3000K | Purple-pink | Often purple or cool white | Warm or cool white | Bright white, often harsh |
| PPF published | Yes, every light (17–50 μmol/s) | Sometimes | Rarely | No — rated in lumens | Usually |
| Color rendering (CRI) | 97–98 | Poor — leaves look purple, hard to spot problems | Rarely listed | Typically 80–90 | Rarely a priority |
| UV output | Under 0.4% | Varies | Rarely listed | Very low | Some add UV on purpose |
| Rated lifespan | 7–11 years | Varies | Often unrated | Rated for hours of use, not plant output | Varies |
| Built to look like | Home lighting: pendants, lamps, track lights | Grow equipment | Desk gadgets | Ordinary bulbs | Industrial fixtures |
| Best fit | Houseplants in lived-in rooms | Seed starting in a basement or closet | A single small plant on a budget | Very low-light plants as a stopgap | Maximum output in a tent or grow room |
Purple lights pair red and blue LEDs because those wavelengths drive photosynthesis efficiently. The tradeoff is living with them: the glow is jarring in a home, and under purple light you can't see yellowing, pests, or scorch on leaves. Soltech's 3000K full-spectrum LEDs still deliver the red and blue plants need, but the light looks like ordinary warm interior lighting and leaves keep their true color at CRI 97–98.
Clip-on gooseneck lights are inexpensive and easy to try, but most don't publish PPF, so there's no way to know whether they're delivering enough light. Many run on low-power USB or plastic strip LEDs better suited to a single small plant than to a Monstera. Every Soltech light lists its PPF, wattage, beam angle, and recommended distance, from the 17 μmol/s Grove for shelves to the 50 μmol/s Aspect Gen 2 for large plants.
A household LED bulb is rated in lumens — brightness to human eyes — not in the light plants use, so you can't tell how much it's actually giving your plant. Standard bulbs are also designed for room lighting at typical CRIs around 80–90. The Vita fits the same E26 socket but is built and rated as a grow light: 25.95 μmol/s PPF, CRI 98, and a choice of 60° or 36° beam to aim light where the plant is.
High-wattage panels are built for tents and grow rooms, where the goal is maximum output per dollar and nobody has to look at the fixture. Soltech is built for the opposite situation: plants in a living room, kitchen, or office, where the light has to look good, stay cool, and be safe around people and pets.
If you're starting seeds in a basement, growing vegetables in a tent, or need the most raw output for the lowest price, a high-wattage panel or budget bar light will give you more μmol per dollar, and how it looks won't matter. Soltech is the better choice when the plant lives where you live: you want strong, measurable plant light that looks like good home lighting and lasts for years.
The most important match is between a light's output and your plant's light category. A light that's too weak keeps a plant alive without helping it grow; a light that's too strong at close range can scorch a shade-lover.
Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, Pothos, Peace Lily, Spider Plant, Parlor Palm. These need roughly 50–100 μmol/m²/s at the leaf. The Vita is the most affordable entry point if you already own a lamp. The Grove suits plants on shelves, the Grove with Alta stands upright beside a plant, and the Aura is the choice when the light needs to look like decor first.
Calathea, Cast Iron Plant, Money Tree, Nerve Plant, ferns, Anthurium. These need about 150 μmol/m²/s. The Vita Narrow in a recessed can or floor lamp works well for Calathea; the Versa's adjustable arm puts a tabletop plant at the right distance; the Grove works when mounted close above a shelf.
Monstera, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Philodendron, Alocasia, Croton, Hoya. These need 200–300 μmol/m²/s. The Aspect Gen 2 handles a single specimen plant; the Highland covers several large plants or a tall tree. The Vita reaches bright indirect levels for smaller plants close to the light, and so does the Aura for plants within 8 inches of the lamp.
Succulents, cacti, Jade Plant, Meyer Lemon and other citrus, herbs. These need 350–500+ μmol/m²/s — the most of any houseplant — so only Soltech's two lights rated for bright direct light fit. Hang the Aspect Gen 2 closer (12–24 inches) or run multiple Highland lights on one track.
| Your situation | Best match | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One big plant in a living room corner | Aspect Gen 2 | Strongest single light; hangs from ceiling, a wall mount, the freestanding Stello stand, or the Archetto |
| Plant wall, living wall, or several floor plants | Highland (Wide + Narrow) | Multiple aimable lights on one track; mix beam widths |
| Indoor tree over 5 feet or high ceilings | Highland Narrow | 36° beam carries intensity up to 96" away |
| Bookshelf, plant stand, or shelving unit full of small plants | Grove (x2–4 with Connector Kit) | Low-profile bar mounts under each shelf |
| Kitchen herbs under upper cabinets | Grove | Under-cabinet mounting puts light close to the pots |
| Desk or home office | Versa | Freestanding, adjustable, touch-dimmable |
| Beside a floor plant or on a console, with no mounting | Grove with Alta | 18" upright wood stand that rotates 360° |
| Bedroom or living room where looks matter most | Aura | Reads as an accent lamp, not a grow setup |
| You already own a lamp, pendant, or recessed can | Vita (Wide for lamps, Narrow for cans) | Screws into any standard E26 socket |
| Renting, can't drill or hardwire | Versa, Grove with Alta, Aura, Vita in a Fern or Willow stand, or Aspect on Stello | All plug in with nothing to install |
| Tight budget | Vita | Lowest entry price in the lineup |
The Aspect Gen 2 is a complete pendant at 50 μmol/s and 36 watts, rated up to bright direct light. The Vita is a 20-watt, 25.95 μmol/s bulb that turns a fixture you already own into a grow light, rated up to bright indirect.
Choose the Aspect Gen 2 for bright-light plants, sun lovers, and anything medium-sized or larger. Choose the Vita for low-to-bright-indirect plants, when you want to reuse an existing lamp, or when budget decides it.
All three use the same Grove LED bar: 17 μmol/s, 11 watts, CRI 97, touch dimming. The difference is how it's mounted.
Choose the Grove to mount under a shelf or cabinet, or to link up to four bars along a shelving unit. Choose the Versa for an adjustable arm that angles light over a desk or counter. Choose the Grove with Alta for an 18" upright Hevea wood stand that rotates 360°, to stand beside a plant on a shelf, desk, or floor.
Both are rated for low to bright direct light. The Aspect Gen 2 has more output in a single fixture (50 vs. 40 μmol/s); the Highland lets you put several lights on one track.
Choose the Aspect Gen 2 for one plant or one tight cluster. Choose the Highland for plants spread across a wall or room, a living wall, or a tall tree that needs the narrow beam.
Both are tabletop lamps that work within 24" of plants. The Aura has more output (20.34 vs. 17 μmol/s) and reaches bright indirect light for plants within 8"; the Versa tops out at medium indirect but has an adjustable arm and touch dimming.
Choose the Aura when the lamp itself is part of the room's design. Choose the Versa when you want to aim and dim the light over a working surface.
The Vita and Highland both come in two beams with the same output. A wide beam spreads light over a bigger area up close; a narrow beam concentrates it so it stays strong farther away.
Choose Wide for table and floor lamps and plants within a few feet (Vita Wide 12–48", Highland Wide 12–72"). Choose Narrow for recessed cans, high ceilings, living walls, and tall indoor trees (Vita Narrow 24–80", Highland Narrow 18–96").
Soltech's flagship and its most powerful single light. It's built for the plants people most often struggle with indoors: Monsteras that won't split, Fiddle Leaf Figs that drop leaves every winter, and citrus that needs real intensity.
Track lighting for plant collections that outgrow a single light: living walls, plant shelves, rows of floor plants, and large indoor trees. Each light on the track aims independently, and Wide and Narrow lights can share one track.
A full-spectrum grow bulb for any standard household socket. Put it in a lamp or fixture you already own and it becomes a grow light that still looks like warm interior lighting.
A grow light designed to be an accent lamp first. Its full-spectrum LEDs are UL-tested for horticultural performance, and its diffused, dimmable glow supports plants placed around it while fitting into a living room or bedroom like any well-designed lamp. Because the light radiates outward, how far a plant sits from the lamp sets how much light it gets.
The Grove bar on a fully adjustable stand. Set it on a desk or counter and angle it over your plants; touch dimming tunes intensity for whatever's underneath.
A slim bar that mounts under shelves and cabinets, putting light right above plants that would otherwise sit in shadow. Link up to four with the Grove Connector Kit to light a full shelving unit.
The same Grove bar on the Alta, a sustainable Hevea wood stand shaped like a taper candle. It stands 18" tall assembled, clicks in magnetically, and rotates a full 360° so you can aim light at a floor plant, a shelf, or a desk with nothing to install.

| Kitchen herbs | Bright direct | 350–500 μmol/m²/s | Grove (mounted close) | Versa |
Whether you're choosing between Soltech lights or comparing brands, these are the specs that predict how well a light will grow your plants. If a light doesn't list them, that's worth noticing.
Watts measure electricity used. Lumens measure brightness to human eyes. PPF (μmol/s) measures plant-usable light, so it's the fairest number to compare. For reference, Soltech's lineup runs from 17 μmol/s (Grove) to 50 μmol/s (Aspect Gen 2).
PPFD is the light that reaches the leaf, in μmol/m²/s, and it drops as distance increases. A light's PPF only means something alongside its recommended distance. Low-light plants need about 50–100, moderate 150, bright indirect 200–300, and sun lovers 350–500+.
Wide beams cover more area up close; narrow beams carry intensity farther. That's why Soltech's 36° Narrow lights are rated to 80–96" away while the 60° Wide versions top out at 48–72".
Warm white 3000K full spectrum gives plants what they need while looking like normal home lighting. CRI tells you how true colors look under the light; 97–98 means you'll see your plants' real color and spot problems early.
Check UV output and heat if the light will be near people, pets, or delicate leaves, and look for a rated lifespan in years rather than a vague "long-lasting." Soltech lights emit less than 0.4% UV and are rated for 7–11 years.
Match the light to your plant's light needs and your space. For a floor plant that needs bright or direct light (Monstera, Fiddle Leaf Fig, citrus, succulents), choose the Aspect Gen 2 pendant. For several plants along a wall or ceiling, choose the Highland Track Light. To turn a lamp or fixture you already own into a grow light, choose the Vita bulb. For plants on shelves or under cabinets, choose the Grove bar. For a desk or counter, choose the Versa. For a freestanding upright light beside a plant, choose the Grove with Alta. For a lamp that reads as decor in a living room or bedroom, choose the Aura.
The Aspect Gen 2 pendant is Soltech's most powerful single light at 50 μmol/s PPF and 36 watts, rated from low to bright direct light. The Highland Track Light is next at 40 μmol/s per light, and because several Highland lights can share one track, it is the most powerful option for lighting a living wall or a group of large plants.
The Aspect Gen 2 is a complete pendant fixture with 50 μmol/s PPF at 36 watts, rated up to bright direct light. The Vita is a full-spectrum grow bulb with 25.95 μmol/s PPF at 20 watts that screws into any standard E26 socket, rated up to bright indirect light. Choose the Aspect for bright-light plants and larger plants; choose the Vita to turn a lamp or fixture you already own into a grow light.
All three use the same Grove LED bar: 17 μmol/s PPF, 11 watts, CRI 97, and touch dimming. The Grove on its own mounts under shelves and cabinets, and up to four can be linked with the Grove Connector Kit. The Versa puts the bar on an adjustable tabletop arm for desks and counters. The Grove with Alta stands the bar upright on an 18-inch Hevea wood stand that rotates 360 degrees.
The Vita and Highland come in Wide (60°) and Narrow (36°) beams with the same output. A wide beam spreads light over a larger area and works best close to the plant: the Vita Wide is rated for 12–48 inches and the Highland Wide for 12–72 inches. A narrow beam concentrates light so it stays strong farther away, which suits recessed cans, high ceilings, living walls, and tall indoor trees: the Vita Narrow is rated for 24–80 inches and the Highland Narrow for 18–96 inches.
For low-light plants like Snake Plants, ZZ Plants, Pothos, Spider Plants, and Peace Lilies, the Vita grow bulb, Grove bar, Grove with Alta, and Aura ambient lamp all deliver enough light without overpowering the plant. The Vita is the most affordable option if you already have a lamp or fixture; the Grove suits plants on shelves; the Aura suits rooms where you want the light to read as decor.
The Aspect Gen 2 pendant is the best match for a Monstera or Fiddle Leaf Fig. Both are bright-indirect plants that need around 250 μmol/m²/s at the leaf for about 12 hours a day. Hang the Aspect Gen 2 24–36 inches above the top of the plant. For an especially tall specimen, or several large plants in one area, the Highland Track Light is the alternative.
Sun-loving plants need the most light of any houseplant, roughly 350–500+ μmol/m²/s at the leaf. Only the Aspect Gen 2 and Highland Track Light are rated for bright direct light; hang the Aspect Gen 2 12–24 inches above the plants, or use multiple Highland lights for a larger collection. For a small kitchen herb garden, a Grove bar mounted close above the pots is a space-saving option.
Yes, if the plants are grouped and share similar light needs. A single Aspect Gen 2 can cover a cluster of plants under its 60-degree beam, and up to four Grove bars can be linked with the Grove Connector Kit to light a full shelf. For plants spread along a wall or across a room, the Highland Track Light holds multiple lights on one track that you can aim individually.
Every Soltech light can be used without hardwiring. The Versa, Grove with Alta, Aura, and the Fern or Willow lampstands with a Vita bulb are plug-and-grow with nothing to install. The Aspect Gen 2 can hang from the freestanding Stello Pendant Stand instead of a ceiling hook. The Highland is available as a plug-in system as well as a hardwired version.
For houseplants in a living space, yes. Many budget grow lights are purple, don't publish PPF, and aren't rated for lifespan, so it's hard to know whether they're giving a plant enough light or how long they'll keep doing it. Every Soltech light publishes its PPF (17–50 μmol/s), uses warm white 3000K light with a CRI of 97–98, emits less than 0.4% UV, and is rated for 7–11 years. If you're growing seedlings or vegetables in a tent where looks don't matter, a budget panel can deliver more raw output per dollar.
A regular LED bulb may keep a very low-light plant alive, but it isn't rated in PPF, so you can't tell how much plant-usable light it provides, and most standard bulbs have a CRI around 80–90. The Soltech Vita fits the same E26 socket and is built as a grow light: 25.95 μmol/s PPF, CRI 98, and a choice of 60° or 36° beam to focus light on the plant.
No. Every Soltech grow light produces warm white 3000K full-spectrum light that looks like normal interior lighting. Plants get the red and blue wavelengths they need for photosynthesis, but the light appears natural in a living space rather than the purple-pink glow of older 'blurple' grow lights.
Yes. Soltech grow lights emit less than 0.4% UV and produce no significant heat, so they are safe for people, pets, and children, and they will not fade furniture, floors, or artwork. They focus their output on visible PAR light (400–700 nm), the range plants use for photosynthesis.
The Aspect Gen 2, Highland, Aura, Versa, Grove, and Grove with Alta are rated for 11 years, and the Vita grow bulb is rated for 30,000 hours, about 7 years at 12 hours a day. Soltech fixtures have LED chips mounted directly to an aluminum housing, so there are no bulbs to replace. The Aspect, Highland, and Grove carry a 5-year warranty and the Vita carries a 3-year warranty.
Watts measure how much electricity a light uses, and lumens measure brightness as human eyes perceive it. Neither tells you how much light a plant can use. PPF (Photosynthetic Photon Flux, in μmol/s) measures the plant-usable light a fixture produces, so it is the fairest way to compare grow lights. Higher PPF means a light can support brighter-light plants or hang farther away.
The Aspect Gen 2 is rated for 12–72 inches: about 24–36 inches above bright-indirect plants and 12–24 inches above sun lovers. The Highland Wide is rated for 12–72 inches and the Highland Narrow for 18–96 inches. The Vita Wide works from 12–48 inches and the Vita Narrow from 24–80 inches. The Aura gives bright indirect light to plants within 8 inches, moderate indirect light from 8–18 inches, and suits low-light-tolerant plants from 18–24 inches. The Versa, Grove, and Grove with Alta work 1–24 inches from the plant. The Soltech Plant Light Calculator gives a recommended height for your specific plant and size.
