How To Make An Easy DIY Living Wall Using 4 Wall Hanging Planters

For this project, we are designing a DIY Living Wall using Wally Eco Planters and a Soltech Solutions Aspect Growlight. We decided to find a hanging LED growlight that would work well with our wall planters. Since many in our community have used the Soltech pendant lights, we wanted to see what the fuss was about - and we were not disappointed. The Aspect light hangs from the wall or ceiling, and its height can be adjusted to suit the light requirements of the plants it illuminates - it even comes with a guide that lists many common and uncommon types of houseplants and the height they recommend for those specific plants!

DIY Living Wall

If you’re using the Aspect pendant growlight from Soltech, you have a couple of options; you can use the included hardware to mount the light from your ceiling, or opt for a wall mounted application using a shelving bracket, which is what we did here. The light does weigh a good amount, so make sure to either use drywall anchors for the screws or screw your shelving bracket into a stud for support. Remember that you will need an outlet nearby to plug in your light!

What you will need to make a living wall:

  • Wally Eco 4 Pack (we used Espresso) with hardware (drywall anchors and screws) included
  • Plants of similar light and care requirements (we used spider plants and dracaena)
  • Drill/screwdriver

If using the Aspect light:

  • Aspect pendant growlight and included hardware for ceiling mounted application
  • For wall mounted application: shelving support bracket with hook (under $10 at hardware stores like Home Depot) and screws x 2
  • Drill and (optional) stud finder

Since we were working with one light that had to shine on all four plants, we decided to arrange our Espresso Wally Eco 4 pack in a tightly spaced offset pattern. Luckily, the easy on-off wall feature of the Eco planters makes it easy to rotate them so each plant can spend time in the prime lighting spot. The spacing we decided on was 9” vertical and 10” horizontal, staggering the planters in a zig-zag pattern from left to right. Doesn’t this DIY Living Wall just look cozy? It would make a great reading nook!

he key to a thriving summer plant collection is simple: match each plant to the right amount of light, water based on how dry the soil is rather than a fixed schedule, and shield sensitive leaves from harsh midday sun. This guide covers which plants love the season, how to water and light them as temperatures rise, how to prevent leaf scorch, and when it makes sense to move plants outdoors.

Good indoor plant design comes down to a few repeatable principles: match each plant to its light, vary height and scale, group in odd numbers, and give every arrangement one clear focal point. This guide breaks those principles down, walks through plant placement room by room, and covers what to do when your best-looking spot does not get enough light.

You've got a pothos on the windowsill. Maybe a snake plant in the corner. And somewhere along the way, you started wondering if there's more to it than that.

There is.

The apartments that feel truly alive, the ones you scroll past on Pinterest and instantly want to live in, aren't just homes with a few plants in predictable spots. They're intentional. A trailing vine above the kitchen cabinets. A lush fern tucked into the bathroom. A sculptural snake plant in the entryway that makes you feel like you've arrived somewhere good.

A lot of those looks are more achievable than they seem. And with the right plant, and sometimes a little help from a grow light, even the darker, more forgotten corners of your apartment can become something worth noticing.

Here are five unexpected places to bring your plant styling ideas to life.
