Interiorscaping and Biophilic Design: Why They’re Trending

Interiorscaping, also known as interior landscaping, is the art of integrating plants and natural elements into indoor spaces. This practice goes beyond simply placing a few potted plants around a room; it involves strategic design to create a balanced, harmonious environment that promotes well-being. It’s part of the broader concept of biophilic design, which focuses on reconnecting people with nature by incorporating natural materials, patterns, and elements into buildings and interiors.

Why is Biophilic Design So Popular?

The rise of urban living and the increasing amount of time we spend indoors has fueled the desire to bring the outdoors in. As more research highlights the benefits of exposure to nature—such as reduced stress, improved air quality, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being—biophilic design has become a sought-after feature in both homes and workplaces.

Incorporating plants, natural lighting, organic materials like wood and stone, and even water elements creates spaces that feel more refreshing and calming. Interiorscaping, in particular, helps people stay connected to nature, even when they’re indoors for long periods.

The popularity of biophilic design is also driven by its sustainability. Using energy-efficient grow lights, sustainable materials, and nature-inspired designs reduces environmental impact, making it a favorite for eco-conscious individuals and companies.

In short, interiorscaping and biophilic design have become popular because they combine aesthetics, well-being, and sustainability in ways that elevate the experience of indoor spaces, making them healthier and more harmonious.

Q&A with Grace from Fresh Space by Grace

Q: Grace, can you tell us a little bit about how Fresh Space by Grace began?

Grace: Of course! My passion for plants really took root after a transformative experience during a visit to the Philippines. I was spending time with family, completely immersed in the majesty of the jungle. One evening, while gazing out at the immense, ancient trees, I felt this incredible energy radiating from the jungle. It was like the natural world was alive, pulsating, and connecting with me on a deep, emotional level. That overwhelming feeling was so powerful, it brought me to tears. I knew right then that I wanted to bring that energy into people’s lives through my work with plants. That’s when Fresh Space by Grace was born.

Q: How do you bring that sense of nature and energy into the spaces you design?

Grace: My goal is always to recreate that connection to nature, even in urban or indoor environments. Plants have this incredible ability to change the energy of a space, bringing in a sense of calm, happiness, and well-being. Through interiorscaping, I work with clients to incorporate living plants into their interiors in a way that enhances both the aesthetics and the feeling of the space. It’s not just about placing a few plants around; it’s about creating a balance that lifts the spirit and transforms the atmosphere.

Q: You’re known for integrating Soltech grow lights into your designs. How do they complement your interiorscaping?

Grace: Soltech grow lights are a key part of what I do, especially in spaces that don’t receive enough natural light. One of the things I love about Soltech’s lights is how seamlessly they blend into the design of a room. They’re functional but also aesthetically pleasing, which is really important in the type of work I do. For example, I often use their Aspect pendant grow lights, which not only provide the perfect light spectrum for plant growth but also add a warm, cozy ambiance to the space.

I recently wrote an article, “Feeding Plants with Soltech Grow Lights,” where I go deeper into the benefits of using Soltech lights. These lights mimic the sun, so they allow plants to thrive even in spaces where sunlight is limited. This means I can place plants in darker corners or windowless rooms without sacrificing their health or vitality.

Q: Can you share a specific project where Soltech grow lights really made a difference?

Grace: Absolutely. I had a client who wanted to fill their living room with plants, but their space had very little natural light, especially in the corner they wanted to highlight with greenery. I installed several Soltech grow lights, including their Aspect lights, which completely transformed the area. Not only did the plants thrive, but the soft, natural-looking light created an inviting, soothing environment that became the client’s favorite spot in the house.

Q: What makes Soltech grow lights your go-to for interiorscaping?

Grace: I choose Soltech grow lights because they offer the perfect balance between functionality and design. Many grow lights can be bulky or intrusive, but Soltech’s lights are sleek and fit into any interior effortlessly. Plus, they mimic the sun’s full spectrum, which is essential for healthy plant growth. With Soltech, I don’t have to compromise between plant health and design aesthetics. They allow me to create indoor spaces where plants can truly thrive, and people can feel that connection to nature.

Q: What do you hope clients feel when they step into a space you’ve designed?

Grace: My hope is that when someone enters a space I’ve worked on, they feel a sense of calm, happiness, and connection. Just like I felt standing in that jungle, I want them to feel the energy that nature brings into their lives. With the right plants and lighting—like Soltech grow lights—I believe any interior can become a vibrant, uplifting space.

Grace’s story and expertise show how the thoughtful integration of plants and lighting can transform any space into a living, breathing sanctuary.
