We are excited to announce the release of Gardening Under Lights, by Leslie F. Halleck. (Published by Timber Press and ready to ship in July 2018). We can't wait to get our hands on a copy this summer!
Tired of killing your succulents and orchids? Wish you could grow your own tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and even citrus indoors year-round? Keeping indoor plants and growing food indoors are expanding trends these days, especially with younger consumers. Apartment living, short growing seasons, a desire for fresh hyper-local produce, and a serious addiction to plant collecting, are just a few reasons many plant enthusiasts attempt indoor gardening. However, home gardeners of all levels often fail repeatedly with growing food plants indoors, as well as with popular house plants such as succulents, because they don’t have enough light – or the right kind of light. Indoor grow lighting is a complicated and often-misunderstood topic. From seedlings, to garden starts, to permanent indoor crops and plant collections, horticulturist Leslie F. Halleck demystifies the art and science of indoor plant lighting and growing in her book Gardening Under Lights.

This Book

is a highly-detailed, accessible guide for seed starters, plant collectors, and anyone who wants to successfully garden indoors. “If you want to grow tomatoes and maintain citrus trees indoors in winter – or keep your indoor succulents from constantly dying on you -” says Halleck, “you must provide adequate supplemental grow lighting.” Choosing the right kind of grow lights for your plant type and indoor space, and creating the right type of growing environment, can be an overwhelming task for beginners.

Gardening Under Lights

details everything a gardener or hobbyist needs to know to garden indoors. Part One starts with the basics of photosynthesis, the science of light, and how to accurately measure how much light a plant needs. Part Two provides an overview of the most up-to-date tools and gear available. Parts Three and Four offer tips and techniques for growing popular ornamental plants (orchids, succulents, bonsai, and more) and edible plants (salad greens, cannabis, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, citrus, and many more) independent of the constraints of volatile outdoor conditions. (Get yours HERE.) Who will benefit from Gardening Under Lights? Gardeners and growers who want to expand their growing space and extend their growing seasons, city dwellers & balcony gardeners who have no yard space, fresh food enthusiasts who want clean ingredients at their fingertips, and specialty plant collectors who need to feed their plant addiction year-round.
